Looking reality in the face
Through its images and its testimonies, the documentary makes it possible to understand a reality that is often kept out of sight: that of exiled people facing detention and particularly harsh living conditions in Libya.
Report · Rennes, 16 September 2026
A gathering organised by BUG around voluntary commitment and the realities of exile, marked by the screening of the documentary “The centres of shame in Libya”.

A gathering organised by BUG
On Wednesday 16 September 2026, BUG held “Les Instantanés”, an evening bringing together associations, volunteers and committed people around meeting, sharing and discovering one another's work.
Le Prix des Promesses d'Exil was glad to take part in this event, which also included the screening of “The centres of shame in Libya”, a documentary about the living conditions of exiled people held in detention centres in Libya.
A high point of the evening
Through its images and its testimonies, the documentary makes it possible to understand a reality that is often kept out of sight: that of exiled people facing detention and particularly harsh living conditions in Libya.
For Le Prix des Promesses d'Exil, this screening echoes our own purpose directly: to make the realities of exile known, to give the accounts a place and to open up dialogue.
Watching, listening, understanding: these are the first steps towards moving past received images and putting people back at the heart of the conversation.
Beyond the screening
“Les Instantanés” made room for many encounters and conversations with people committed to voluntary work. For our association, the evening was an opportunity to present our approach and to carry on the connection begun with BUG.

The evening was an opportunity to present Le Prix des Promesses d'Exil, to talk about our work and to carry on the connection begun with BUG.
Such encounters are essential for a young association: sharing experience, understanding realities on the ground, and building new collaborations step by step.
Part of something wider
Taking part in “Les Instantanés” belongs to something wider: raising awareness of the realities of exile, letting the voices of those who have lived it be heard, and creating spaces for dialogue.
The screening also reminds us how important it is to look beyond borders and figures, in order to understand the human journeys behind every story of exile.
Because exile cannot be reduced to a figure. Behind every journey, there is a story.
